Print PDF Tab
Creating a map output as a PDF
is ideal because virtually all computers have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed and the PDF format
ensures a consistent, standardized output product that is easy to print, save, store or share with others. Whatever map
information is currently displayed in the map viewer will be shown on the PDF output, so before creating your PDF, make
sure you've got all the information you need and the right map area showing in the Map Window.
Click the Create PDF tab to initiate the process of building your custom PDF output map. You will be prompted
to select your desired paper size and print quality from a list of options. Standard templates are generally available so
you can use to easily define the size and style of your map output. The 'scale' setting allows you to select either the
current Map Window scale, the present Map Window boundaries, or a standard map scale (e.g. if you want 1:10,000 instead
of 1:10,451) as the map area. Then, give your map a title and, if you wish, fill in the 'notes' field which will add text
at the bottom of the PDF output. People often use this option to add additonal explanatory information related to their map.
When you click OK, Geocortex and ArcIMS go to work to create your output map. Depending on your request it
may take up to a minute. A legend, North arrow, and scalebar are added, sometimes an index map
(depending on the template you are using) as well as all the elements you've defined for your custom map.
When it's done, you'll be notified that the map is ready for download from the server. You can open the PDF
by clicking on 'open pdf', or you can right-click on the link and 'save link as...' to download it to your computer.
For some users, extra fields are made available for additional user input, such as adding the date/time of map creation,
the name of your department, or other organization-related details. The PDF printing function allows for the
configuration of print templates, which can define different layouts and appearances. For more information on
the customization and configuration of the printing templates, contact your administrator.
